Candles and blankets create a cosy atmosphere

With stick bread, marshmallows and simple snacks, children also have fun at a campfire evening

The right planning for the campfire evening

A safe and suitable fireplace is the be-all and end-all. Use a fire bowl or set up the campfire in a designated area. A bucket of water or a fire extinguisher are part of the safety precautions and should be to hand just in case.

With this checklist, you can easily plan your campfire evening:

  • Fire bowl or designated fire pit

  • Tinder and dry wood (kindling and logs)

  • Long barbecue skewers and heat-resistant cookware

  • Seating and blankets

  • Lighting: Lanterns or battery-powered fairy lights

Tip for a romantic campfire: Candles and solar lamps provide soft light and create a cosy atmosphere. Blankets and cushions invite you to linger.

      Campfire evening with children

A campfire with children offers a wonderful opportunity to spend time together in nature and create unforgettable moments. With classics such as stick bread, fruit skewers warmed over the embers or roasting marshmallows , you can be sure that children will be delighted.

        So the campfire burns longer

To ensure that the campfire does not go out prematurely, but provides a cosy warmth and atmosphere until the end of the evening, the correct preparation and care of the fire is crucial:

        • Use dry, well-seasoned wood.

        • Stack the logs in a pyramid shape.

        • Add logs regularly to maintain the embers.

        • Keep the embers free of ashso that the air can continue to circulate well.

          Recipe ideas for the campfire

A successful meal is part of a perfect campfire evening. Whether it's a colourful salad, grilled vegetables combined with cheese or a fresh fish fillet, lightly seasoned and gently cooked - there are no limits to your imagination.

            Twistbreads, marshmallows & hot dogs

An evening around the campfire is simply not complete without these classics. The ingredients are designed for about 4 people.

            Ingredients:

            • For the stick bread: 200 g wheat flour (type 550), 4 g dry yeast, ½ tbsp raw cane sugar, 150 ml lukewarm milk (soya milk can be substituted), ½ tsp sea salt, 1 tbsp sunflower oil

            • For the marshmallows: 200 g marshmallows

            • For the hot dogs: 1 shallot, 4 tbsp ketchup, 2 tbsp medium-hot mustard, ½ tsp curry powder, 4 sausages (e.g. Vienna sausages)

              Preparation:

              • For the stick bread: Place all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and knead into a smooth dough. Leave the dough to rise in a warm place for 15 minutes, then divide into twelve portions.

              • Pull the portions into an approx. 20 cm long strand of dough at the fireplace and wrap around a stick in a spiral.

              • Hold the stick about 20 cm apart over the hot embers for about 10 minutes, not directly into the fire. Keep turning the bread so that it is crispy on all sides.

              • After the bread or at the same time, skewer up to two marshmallows on a stick and hold them over the embers in the same way as the bread. Turn the stick until the marshmallows are golden brown all over.

              • For the hot dogs: Peel and finely dice the shallot and mix with the ketchup, mustard and curry powder to make a hot dog sauce.

              • Put the sausages on an untreated skewer and cook over the campfire. Remove from the stick, insert into a sliced open twistbread and top with the sauce.
