The minimalist kitchen of today: clean and uncluttered

    5 min.

In the kitchen, you prefer to concentrate on the essentials:

the preparation and cooking of food. High-quality kitchen appliances are more important to you than a cluttered selection of cookware and accessories. A minimalist kitchen like this is easy to realise and also saves a lot of space in small flats.

What does a minimalist kitchen look like?

Minimalism emphasises functionality combined with the best quality. The fittings are minimalist and kitchen appliances are often only recognisable at second glance, for example because the cooker and sink are completely flush with the worktop. Only an elegantly curved tap catches the eye when entering the room.

Combi appliances eliminate the need for many kitchen gadgets that would otherwise take up space: One example is the innovative BORA X BO steam oven, which integrates the function of a steam oven into the classic oven. It also demonstrates another advantage of the modern minimalist kitchen: instead of conspicuous control knobs and other elements that cause extra work when cleaning, there is simply a fully integrated control panel. When not in use, this is an invisible part of a smooth façade and only lights up when you use it.

Styling tips for your minimalist kitchen: what do you need?

Firstly, think about your preferred interior design style. Do you want your minimalist kitchen to be black and high-gloss or cosy with wood? Of course, you can also combine materials: An all-white interior, for example, can quickly look sterile and uncomfortable. Soften the look by using wood in a warm brown colour for the worktop or parquet flooring in a predominantly white minimalist kitchen.

Once you have decided on the colours and materials, put together the kitchen appliances that you can't do without:

    Sink

Whether for quickly cleaning dishes or as a drinking water dispenser: a sink is indispensable. Choose a model that is barely recognisable at first glance and blends in perfectly with the worktop.

      Cooktop

Even if you rarely cook, you can't do without a hob to prepare hot food. One of the innovative cooktop extractor systems from BORA

is a good choice for the minimalist kitchen, as you don't need an additional extractor bonnet at all. The cooking vapours are extracted downwards directly next to the cooktop and do not spread throughout the room. Your wall remains free and looks more spacious.

        Refrigerator

You can store food in the fridge for longer periods and keep your drinks cool. A fridge-freezer combination such as the no-frills BORA Cool Combi, which blends into any design, is particularly practical for storing food. The doors conceal numerous storage options for the correct storage of different foods.

          Oven

As the equipment in the minimalist kitchen is reduced to the bare essentials, it is best to rely on multifunctional kitchen appliances such as the BORA X BO steam oven, the aforementioned combination of oven and steam cooker. The BORA X BO can bake, roast, hot-air grill and steam. With its innovative steam technology and intuitive operation, food can be prepared individually, healthily and, above all, quickly and easily.

            Other kitchen appliances

For all other kitchen appliances, ask yourself whether they can also be integrated inconspicuously or stored in a cupboard. One creative idea, for example, is the BORA QVac

built-in vacuum sealer integrated into the worktop, which only moves upwards when you really need it. The BORA multi-drawer for reheating and keeping food warm also remains invisibly concealed behind a neutral façade in the kitchen unit until you pull it out to use it. Rarely used accessories such as blenders, egg cookers or waffle irons can be stored in cupboards. The freer the worktop remains, the more the room can breathe.

The minimalist kitchen and decoration: how it works

When you furnish your minimalist kitchen, the question of design elements naturally also arises. You don't want to completely do without decorations that express your personality, but minimalism also involves reducing things to the essentials. Here are a few tips:

              • A single wall shelf with elegant accessories (oil & vinegar or filled storage jars) as decoration on the wall above the worktop.

              • Fresh kitchen herbs in a pot for a natural green touch and as an ingredient when cooking.

              • A single large framed picture as an eye-catcher on the otherwise empty wall.

              • Attractive light sources such as BORA Stars as a combination of decoration and light source.

Another tip for the minimalist kitchen: choose a single, uniform colour for essential accessories. On the shelf, you can achieve a great effect with several all-white storage containers in different shapes. On a white worktop, three essential small kitchen appliances such as a toaster, kettle and coffee machine in black stand out attractively against a white background and white cabinets.

Minimalism is not synonymous with monochrome, however: if you like intense colours, install bright red cabinets against the black worktop and round off the look with green plants and a colourful kitchen picture.
