Steam and vapours rise at a maximum speed of one metre per second. The BORA cooktop extracts with cross flow suction that is higher than the speed at which cooking vapours rise. In this way, the cooking vapours and odours are effectively extracted on the cooktop.

All functions are easily, conveniently and intuitively activated by turning the knob and tapping the central touch-operated surface. BORA Classic is operated on the cooktop itself using the intuitive sControl+ touch controls. The compact systems also combine a cooktop with four cooking zones and an effective extractor: BORA X Pure: surface induction; BORA Pure: induction, BORA Basic: Hyper. The compact appliances have intuitive touch controls on the cooktop. With standard dimensions and the combined design, they can be installed quickly and easily.

3. What happens if liquid gets into the cooktop extractor?

Depending on the system, up to 300 ml of liquid can collect in the cooktop extractor and be washed away without issue. If more liquid than this gets into the cooktop extractor, this cannot damage the electronics as the air flow does not pass through the electronics. With BORA X Pure, BORA Pure and BORA Basic models, larger volumes of up to 3 litres of liquid can also be caught. The housing base can be removed for simple cleaning.

4. What happens if an object falls into the cooktop extractor?

Objects that fall into the cooktop extractor land in the collection dish and can be removed easily. The stainless steel grease filter prevents objects from being drawn into the airflow.

In contrast to traditional extractor hoods with a high noise level at head height, BORA is quieter when cooking than normal noises that occur during roasting. The volume level largely depends on the BORA system used, the individual installation situation and the room conditions.

Cooking vapour is easily absorbed even from a pot with a height of 20 cm. We recommend that for pots with a height of approx. 21 cm and over, you position the pot lid diagonally to conduct the vapours in the direction of the extractor.

Yes, BORA offers an extended warranty for any BORA cooktop extractor system. Extending the warranty by 1 year to 3 years is free of charge. The warranty can be registered at any time within the two-year manufacturer&rsquo;s warranty period. You will find the registration code on the sticker on the cooktop extractor and on a supplementary sheet. 23. Are the visible plastic parts on BORA cooktop extractor systems heat resistant?

The plastic parts that you can see on the cooktop, such as the air inlet nozzle and grease filter, can be cleaned in the dishwasher at temperatures up to 70 degrees. However, they may melt if exposed to hotter temperatures, so do not place hot pots and pans on the air inlet nozzle, for example.

1. What is relative humidity?

Relative humidity gives the saturation level of the air at the current temperature. Warm air can take up more water, cold air can take up less water. I.e. cold air is saturated more quickly. For a comfortable heat, the relative humidity lies between 25 and 60% at a room temperature of 20 to 25 degrees Celsius. 2. How does the relative humidity change during a normal cooking process?

During normal cooking, say cooking for approx. 30 minutes e.g. vegetables, fish or meat, the increase in relative humidity in the exhaust air is barely measurable. 3. What does this mean for surrounding wood and kitchen components, as well as other components?

In compliance with current building standards and the German Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV and DIN 4108), mould formation is excluded when using BORA air circulation or exhaust systems in old and new buildings, and in a normal indoor climate. Wood and kitchen components, as well as other components, are not damaged. In general: Observe the general instructions in BORA&rsquo;s assembly documentation for air circulation and exhaust operation!

1. What is the maximum length of exhaust ducting allowed?

In the case of BORA Professional and BORA Classic, using different fan modules and the BORA Ecotube duct system, exhaust ducting measuring at least 16 metres can be realised, or 6 metres in the case of X Pure, Pure and Basic. Bends reduce the potential duct length.  For BORA X Pure, BORA Pure and BORA Basic, the exhaust channel should not exceed the maximum length of 6 metres. It generally applies that bends can be replaced in certain circumstances and so the duct length can be shortened. 2. If I am using two cooktop extractors, do I need two separate ducts?

Yes, each of the cooktop extractors needs separate exhaust ducting with separate wall sleeves or, optionally, its own recirculation unit.

2. How often should the activated charcoal filter be changed?

The recirculation filter unit ULBF must be replaced every 1.5 years (300 operating hours), recirculation unit UUE1 once a year and recirculation unit ULB3X every three years or every 600 operating hours. The integrated filter (PUAKF) on the BORA X Pure and BORA Pure cooktop extractor systems and on the BORA Basic (BAKFS) and BORA GP4 (BAKFS) should also be replaced on a yearly basis or every 150 operating hours. 3. Why can't I order recirculation filter ULB1 anymore?

The purified air is fed into the plinth area from where it is released back into the room through a return flow aperture measuring at least 500 cm&sup2; per recirculation unit. Gas cooktops require a return flow aperture measuring at least 1000 cm&sup2; per recirculation unit.

5. Can humidity/mould form in the plinth area through variations in the circulated air?

In a normal indoor climate and with proper installation, there is no risk of condensation or mould. With regard to this, please take note of the operating instructions.

6. What is the automatic after-run function and how does it work?

Accepted Answer

To guarantee optimal performance from the odour-neutralising activated charcoal filter, we always recommend the automatic after-run function. This runs for 20 minutes and adjusts itself automatically as soon as the ventilation is turned off. Basically, you should ensure that there is sufficient ventilation (e.g. an open window) when cooking in recirculation mode.

Yes, a large range of modular cooktops is available from the BORA Professional and BORA Classic product series. The gas cooktop and Tepan stainless steel grill complete the assortments. BORA Basic cooktops are available as Hyper and surface induction models. 10. Does the BORA Pure air inlet nozzle fit in the new X Pure and vice versa, does the X Pure air inlet nozzle fit in the Pure?

No, despite having the same outer diameter of 173 mm, the removal technology (tilt mechanism) prevents the X Pure air inlet nozzle from being inserted flush into the BORA Pure. The same applies vice versa, i.e. the colourful Pure air inlet nozzles do not fit the X Pure.

11. Is the air inlet nozzle on the BORA Classic 2.0 also available in other colours?

12. What is the best way to clean the cooktop?

Accepted Answer

Ensure the hob is switched off and cooled down. Remove all coarse dirt and food residues using a glass ceramic scraper, then apply a few drops of a specialist ceramic hob cleaning product (usually available in shops) using a soft, clean cloth. Wait a few minutes for the product to take effect and then remove it using the scraper. Wipe down the cooktop with a damp or wet cloth so that any residues from the cleaning product are completely removed. Finally, dry the cooktop with a clean cloth.

13. How do I stop substances from burning onto the cooktop?

Accepted Answer

As soon as any plastic, aluminium foil or sugar melts onto the hot cooking zone, use a glass ceramic scraper immediately to remove its tough residue so that it does not burn* onto the cooktop.     * Changes in the colour of the cooktop are the result of residues that have not been removed and have burnt on. Glossy spots are the result of wear by the pan base, especially if aluminium-based cookware or unsuitable cleaning agents are used.

14. What cookware should I use with my induction cooktop?

When an induction cooking zone is switched on, its induction coil creates a magnetic field that acts directly on the base of the pot and heats it up. The cooking zone is only indirectly heated up by the heat emitted by the pot. Cooking zones with induction only work if the cookware has a magnetisable base. For perfect heat distribution, we recommend using cookware that is made from a fully magnetic material. Stainless steel cookware with a magnetic base, enamelled steel or cast iron is suitable for induction hobs.

15. Why do my pots and pans buzz when I’m using the induction cooktop?

When the cooking zone is switched on, its induction coil creates a magnetic field that acts directly on the base of the pot and heats it up. The fluctuating magnetic field causes the induction process, which can usually be heard as buzzing, whirring or whistling noises, or which you may notice as pulsing when cooking. The extent to which they occur depends on the cookware you are using.

Basically, this is not recommended, as the BORA system will not be accessible to service engineers when the appliance needs to be serviced. In addition, the cooktops could overheat.

3. How wide must the floor unit be?

Accepted Answer

This varies depending on the selected product, the position and the number of cooktops and cooktop extractors. With a standard arrangement involving two cooktops and one cooktop extractor, you need a floor unit with a width of at least 900 mm for the BORA Professional and BORA Classic ranges. With three cooktops and two cooktop extractors, a width of 1,400 mm is required. This can be created by installing a single front cover across multiple floor units arranged in any format. With BORA X Pure, the floor unit must have a width of 900 mm. With BORA Basic BHA/BHU and BORA Pure, the floor unit must have a width of 800 mm.

4. How deep must the worktop be?

Accepted Answer

From the front edge of the front cover, a depth of at least 600 mm must be available (plus worktop overhang, if present) for the installation of BORA Classic, BORA X Pure, BORA Pure and BORA Basic. The installation depth of BORA Professional varies according to the type of installation. We recommend a minimum depth of 700 mm (plus worktop overhang, if present).

5. How thick must the worktops be?

For all four BORA cooktop extractor systems, we need a worktop with a thickness of between 10 and 40 mm, including base. The base needs to be notched accordingly for thicker worktops.
