Expansion at the BORA site in Niederndorf
Since the beginning of September, a new office building has been expanding the company campus in Niederndorf, Austria, creating space for almost 400 employees - in the unmistakable BORA style, of course.
Architectural aesthetics in the Alpine landscape
Functionality, quality and aesthetics - this is what BORA stands for, not only with its products, but also with its unique architecture. Our headquarters in the Upper Bavarian town of Raubling, our new flagship store in the eastern Westphalian town of Herford and our Tyrolese company site in Niederndorf all bear a distinctive hallmark in terms of design.
The expansion project at the Niederndorf site was launched in 2021 under the premise of meeting the highest demands in terms of performance and aesthetics. The vision behind it was to provide work stations by creating an attractive new office building that harmoniously blends into the surrounding Alpine landscape.
In collaboration with the architect’s office Lorenz Ateliers, this vision was able to be brought to life within two years from the planning stage to its successful completion. The outer appearance of the new building is characterised by the vibrancy of the surrounding flat steel bars. In different colours and heights, they are rotated at different angles to create an extraordinary design feature which also plays an important role in terms of safety, as a balustrade.
To keep the land consumption down, protect green areas and optimise business processes, in this new building project we avoided expanding over a large area. Instead, the company site was compactly squeezed onto our existing land.
In accordance with our sustainability approach, the main roof of the new building – also referred to as AT III – is fully equipped with a solar panel system to generate renewable energy. A groundwater heat pump helps to heat and cool the building. The level of the land surrounding the building itself was lowered by two landscaped slopes and a grove of trees was maintained and added to along the adjacent street, meaning that AT III is nestled in park-like surroundings.
The new office building slots in between the two existing buildings – AT I and AT II – at the company site in Tyrol. AT III is connected to these buildings by up to 20-metre long skywalks, linking it with the R & D department in AT II and our “Hälzyba” (https://www.bora.com/de/de/innovation-insights/story/a-healthy-lifestyle-shapes-our-everyday-life/) in the neighbouring AT I. This not only guarantees our employees a delicious, healthy lunch just a short walk away, but also keeps things close for those moving around the company campus.
Almost 400 workstations on 4500 m²
As an innovative and constantly growing company, BORA is constantly working on expanding its sites in order to offer the many new colleagues sufficient space as well as ergonomic and attractive workstations. Expanding the Niederndorf site with the new office building AT III aims to proactively and sustainably encourage company growth.
On a total area of 7,600 m², of which 4,500 m² is pure office space, the new building has created almost 400 workplaces on four floors - another major milestone in BORA's company history.
Since its completion in early September, AT III has been home to the marketing department, part of the IT department, and product management, among others. The customer support team will be moving in at the start of December, but will leave plenty of room for new talent.
