Why colourful kitchens are on trend

A kitchen is more than just a cooking zone: It also serves as a living space where family and friends meet, cook, eat and laugh together - and where you want to feel completely at ease. Colours play an important role in the atmosphere of a room. They influence moods, make surfaces appear larger or smaller and create skilful accents. Colourful kitchens open up a wide range of design options.

    Suitable colours for your kitchen

Did you know which colour is the most popular for kitchens? Statistics and surveys found out: In Germany, white kitchens are still among the most popular colour variants - closely followed by blue kitchens.

If you like it more colourful, opt for bold shades that radiate individuality and joie de vivre.

With a colourful kitchen , you can emphasise your individual style of living and enjoy the sight of your favourite colours every day. You have a free choice, because in principle all colours are suitable for kitchen design. Extravagant colour combinations are also becoming increasingly common. Are you still looking for ideas for your kitchen in colour?

    • A delicate sage green radiates Nordic freshness and also harmonises with country house style furniture.

    • A night blue cooking area creates an elegant atmosphere - especially if you combine the coloured kitchen front with accessories in gold and copper.

    • Bright colours such as a fresh coral red represent energy and joie de vivre. You can emphasise this effect with fronts in a high-gloss finish.

Good to know: Many shades are on trend, but which kitchen colours aretimeless and will last for decades? In addition to white, light grey and cream, the tried and tested shades also include dark blue and various delicate pastel shades such as a soft vanilla yellow or a light pink.

        Tips for choosing a colour

How many colours should there be in a kitchen? Is less possibly more? In fact, the same applies to the choice of colour: Good things come in threes. You can create a harmonious overall look with a maximum of three colours - using the 60-30-10 rule:

        • 60 percent of the room should be a main colour - for example in the form of a coloured kitchen front.

        • The secondary colour is represented by 30 per cent , for example in the worktop, in individual pieces of furniture and home textiles such as curtains and kitchen carpets.

        • There is 10 percent available for accent colours - ideal for accessories such as colourful handles on the kitchen or colourful kitchen decorations.

For a harmonious kitchen style, it is also advisable to match the materials to the colours. For example, warm wood harmonises perfectly with coloured kitchen fronts in bold tones. Dark wood in particular provides a clever contrast to bright colours.

Which wall colour suits a kitchen?

Depending on the colour you choose, the wall colour will emphasise the nuance of your kitchen front, allow it to take centre stage or be the focal point of your kitchen itself - for example, because you prefer discreet fronts but still want to be colourful. Last but not least, the wall design also influences the atmosphere. This allows you to create an elegant look with shades from the same colour family - for example with a light green wall to match the sage green kitchen. Large rooms in particular lend themselves to strong contrasts, such as petrol-coloured furniture against mustard yellow walls

If you want to bring colour into your cooking and dining area in a simple way, it doesn't necessarily have to be a colourful kitchen unit. A colourful wallpaper in the kitchen also causes a stir. With a photo wallpaper you can bring dream beaches, lush green forests or vibrant metropolises into your home, floral patterns radiate cheerfulness and bold colour gradients give the room a modern touch. Tip: Make sure that at least one colour tone on the wallpaper matches the kitchen colour as closely as possible to create a harmonious overall look.

The effect of colourful kitchens: How colours influence the room atmosphere

A colourful kitchen can be used to achieve certain effects. Which colour makes the kitchen look bigger, which shade do you choose for dark rooms?

            • Light-coloured nuances suggest expansiveness. In small kitchens , delicate pastel shades stand out just as much as bright pops of colour - such as a soft mint or a strong sunny yellow.

            • Pastel colours offer further potential: They have a friendly effect and brighten up dark rooms with small windows and low ceilings. Areas with low brightness also allow high-gloss surfaces because they reflect the light.

            • Open-plan kitchens and open room concepts need accents with eye-catching potential. Add texture to large areas with colourful tiles on the kitchen splashback or as flooring. An eye-catching floor in the cooking zone also structures the room. Skilful contrasts are also permitted - such as a red kitchen with a black floor.
