The purist kitchen favours handleless, calm surfaces and few, high-quality materials. Reduction creates order, well thought-out storage space keeps work areas free. A matt worktop, flush-mounted integrated appliances and balanced lighting characterise the look. The result is a kitchen that stays up to date for a long time and simplifies everyday life.

Purist cuisine: Meaning and principles

Purism means leaving out the unnecessary. Fronts without visible handles, clean joint patterns and consistently continuous lines create a sense of calm. The atmosphere remains reduced, but not cool. Haptics and light take on the role of decoration. Minimalist kitchens follow a similar principle.

Key features of the purist kitchen

    • Handleless, geometric shapes, precise proportions

    • few colour tones, large calm surfaces

    • integrated technology, intuitive operation

    • focus on care, durability and clear design

Proven colours and shapes of the purist kitchen

Work with two to three tones from one colour family, such as white and greige, complemented by a darker panel. Shapes remain geometric: right-angled islands, uniform grids, vertical lines in tall units. Details such as handle strips in black or stainless steel set quiet accents without disturbing the tidiness. This creates a modern, yet permanently calm look.

Handles are no longer required; instead, recessed grips or tip-on opening mechanisms are used. The plinths are recessed, the tall units often run up to the ceiling. The worktop runs as a smooth strip. The niche and side panels are made of the same material. Open shelves set specific accents and only display selected pieces.

Design tips for a modern, purist kitchen:

    • Continue lines across all carcases

    • Bundle appliance axes, calmly grid front division

    • Select niche rear wall in the same material as the worktop

    • Few,purposefully placed open compartments for everyday crockery

These materials are used in a purist kitchen

Purist kitchens thrive on quality materials, a calm feel and ease of care.

      Tried-and-tested combination:

      • Fronts: matt lacquer, laminate with anti-fingerprint, real wood veneer with subtle grain

      • Worktop: Ceramic or quartz composite for a homogeneous look, natural stone with a fine texture

      • Niche: frosted glass, ceramic or low-groove composites

      • Floor: large-format tiles or wood in a calm range

If you want to create contrasts, combine light-coloured fronts with warm wood accents on the kitchen table bench. The modern kitchen living concept also provides inspiration for a contemporary design.

This should not be missing in a purist kitchen

Reduction only works with a clean inner life. Indispensable are:

        • Wide pull-outs with compartments for cutlery, knives and spices

        • Tall unitsfor storage and appliances, quietly organised

        • Waste separation close to the sink, neatly integrated

        • Flush hob with shelves on the left and right

        • Basic light, shadow-free task light, accent light

Use the storage space efficiently. Opt for tall units instead of lots of individual units. Use internal drawers and plan a pharmacy cabinet.

Maintenance remains simple if surfaces are robust and edges are sealed cleanly. Matt, resistant materials minimise fingerprints. We explain how light controls moods in our guide Lighting the kitchen

Flush integration, reduced reflections and clear lines for purist kitchens.

            Purist kitchen as a statement

The visual tranquillity of the purist kitchen is unique. Joints, lines and volumes interlock precisely, technology recedes visually. This reduces distractions and simplifies processes. In open-plan layouts, purism strengthens the connection between cooking and living, as no dominant elements cut through the view. The kitchen appears structured and spacious, even in a small area. The style remains timeless because it emphasises proportions, material quality and careful execution.

              Examples of specific room sizes

              Compact
Handleless in white, light grey ceramic worktop, tall unit with cooling and BORA steam oven. Small display cabinet for everyday crockery. An integrated extractor in the hob ensures a clear view and reduces the need for wall units.

              Medium
Fronts in greige, warm wooden details on the bench and other living room furniture. A kitchen island with a flush-mounted hob forms the central work surface of the purist kitchen. Light strips under wall units create shadow-free zones. Grids and lines remain consistent.

              Large
Graphite mat fronts, quartz composite dark grey, a long island serves as a stage. Tall units flush with the wall. An accent light zones the transition to the living area.
