Old meets new – a complete renovation with challenges

Cosiness, luxury and quality – these were the key attributes when renovating this charming duplex house in the Leyenburg district of The Hague. The 1930s property was completely renovated and modernised in 2023 – a major project that also entailed a number of challenges.

Since the house was in a poor state of repair, comprehensive heat and sound insulation measures had to be taken to start with. In addition, two large chimneys were removed to expand the upper floor into a bedroom floor, while the old bedrooms were converted into additional living space and a luxurious bathroom.

As part of the renovation works, the small peninsula kitchen was also given a complete overhaul. The aim here was to create sufficient room in a rather confined space without compromising on comfort, quality and aesthetics.

A mix of materials and patterns creates a modern chic look

High-quality materials, modern furniture and a timelessly elegant design – these are the hallmarks of a modern chic look. This popular interior style contains elements of purism and urban nonchalance, sets no limits to creativity, provides scope for individuality and offers space for individual ideas and experiments.

The architect of this duplex property used the characteristics of this modern design trend in a truly unique way. Through a seemingly arbitrary combination of different colours, materials and patterns, he successfully created a harmonious overall picture which meets all of the owner’s comfort and luxury requirements while giving character and depth to the property.

The charming peninsular kitchen sits upon a solid herringbone oak parquet and is framed by beige and terracotta walls. Its interior comprises matt kitchen fronts made of dark blue veneering, a rear wall clad with light-blue mosaic tiles and a worktop made of exquisite Taj Mahal marble, all rounded off with an elegant BORA X Pure surface induction cooktop.

A great mix of comfort and elegance with the BORA X Pure

A high-quality mix of materials and patterns combined with an exciting colour and spatial concept gave rise to an extraordinary kitchen in The Hague. Since every exceptional kitchen needs an exceptional cooktop, the owner opted for a BORA X Pure, which has since been flush-mounted into the marble peninsula with understated elegance.

Not only is this BORA surface induction cooktop extremely easy to clean, it also boasts top
extraction performance and a premium design. Since the spatial conditions of the peninsula kitchen only allowed the installation of a cooktop in recirculation mode, the effective odour filtration provided by BORA cooktop systems was also a decisive aspect for the owner.

Despite the tight space, the peninsula kitchen and the BORA X Pure offer maximum comfort, flexibility and cosiness, creating a living space that is ideal for sociable cooking evenings with friends and has a real feel-good factor.
