BORA Basic takes centre stage in luxury city apartment

When an old brick loft apartment in the heart of Amsterdam was refurbished to fill its interiors with light and create a luxurious finish throughout, architects Studio Benoit made it a priority to ensure the chef would be at the heart of the action, with BORA Basic taking centre stage.

Breath taking views of the city’s famous canals are just part of the appeal of this striking renovation, with an open-plan kitchen being central to the interior design and setting the tone for minimalism, space and light throughout.

BORA Basic, set within the island unit, puts the chef at the heart of the action. Fitting seamlessly into the acrylic stone worktop, BORA Basic is scaled down to the bare essentials.

Available in three versions: as a Hyper glass ceramic cooktop, induction cooktop or surface induction cooktop, BORA Basic combines all the benefits of the brand: cooking in the fresh air without an annoying hood and featuring space-saving technology, extremely low noise and high-quality materials, all without compromising on function or design.

Thanks to a cleanrate of 100%, the centrally positioned cooktop extractor effectively draws vapours and odours away where they are created: straight from the pot or pan. Grease particles released during cooking are effectively trapped in the filter, so it feels like cooking and living in fresh air. With odours being removed at source, the cook themselves is not part of the cooking process and the apartment’s soft furnishings are not affected by cooking smells.

Commenting on the finished project, architect Willem Benoit said: “Conveying simplicity and clarity as soon as you walk in, the link between the various areas of the apartment is the kitchen island, a multifunctional area ideal for cooking and hosting guests in a completely unencumbered space.”

About the company:

Since 2007, BORA Lüftungstechnik GmbH, headquartered in Raubling, Upper Bavaria, has successfully developed and sold cooktop extractor systems that draw vapours downwards thanks to the use of patented technology. The innovative BORA Pure, BORA Basic, BORA Classic and BORA Professional product ranges are now sold in 60 countries worldwide.

BORA founder Willi Bruckbauer has a vision: the end of the extractor hood. The patent he developed has multiple advantages: the premium-quality systems are more effective than conventional hoods, extremely quiet, energy efficient and easy to clean. They enable maximum design freedom for kitchens and a clear view.

The company received its first award within the scope of the innovation contest 365 Orte im Land der Ideen (365 Places in the Land of Ideas) back in 2009, followed by the German Entrepreneurs’ Award, red dot awards, Plus X Awards, German Design Awards, Iconic Award, German Brand Award, Good Design Award, iF Design Awards and others.
